Bishop Kelley Comets win tenth straight title, Union Girls Repeat

6A In girl's action, the Union Redskins won their second straight championship title by defeating the Edmond North Huskies. Senior Hillary Cockrell scored the game wining goal in the 88th minute. The Huskies played tough defense, the Redskins' first goal attempt did not come until the 33rd minute when Sophomore Shelby Martin's shot flew just over the crossbar. The Redskins finished the season with a 13-2-1 record. This game was Edmond North's third consecutive championship game and second consecutive lost to the Redskins. In boy's play, Edmond Memorial beat Norman North in 1-0 shootout. The Bulldogs ended the season with a 15-0 record and their first state championship win since 1994. A save by keeper Steven Darnell in the third round was followed by senior Justin Chavez's game-winning shot. 5A On the boys' side, Booker T Washington won their 7th state championship in school history and first since winning the 4A championships in 2001. The Hornet's defeated the Bishop Kelley Comets 3-0. Sophomores Jorge Estrada and Chris Carwile scored along with Junior Nate Doll. Booker T. Washington finished the season with a 13-4 record while Bishop Kelley finished with a 16-2 record. On the girls' side, the Bishop Kelley Comets claimed their 10th straight title beating Booker T. Washington 1-0. Seniors Katie Bykowski, Christina Moore, Tracey Ritchie, Veronica Page and Amelia Williamson celebrated their 4th consecutive state title wins in their high school careers. The championship game marked Bykowski's 13th shutout of the season. 4A Junior Price Pinkerton led the boys of Cascia Hall to their third consecutive 3A state championship win. Pinkerton scored two of the three goals; the other an assist from Chase Francisco to Scott Chevaillier. The first of Pinkerton's goals was 15 yard shot from Byron Dale's pass. Pinkerton scored the final goal off of Pete Testa's corner kick with 8:46 left in the game. The Commandos finished the season with a 13-1 record. Bishop McGuinness came back from a 1-0 Metro Christian lead to beat the Patriots 4-1 in the 4A championship game. An early goal from the Patriot's Johanna Sheppard off Allison Tipton's corner kick was not enough to slow down the Irish. Kelsey Gray, Jacquelyn Elmer, Abbey Akin all scored for the Irish who had 21 goal attempts compared to the Patriots' three. The Irish finished 13-3 while the Patriot's finished 13-4.
