McLay leaving Royals for Wildcats

St. Paul, MN

Friday, May 16, 2008

Woodbury High School has announced that head wrestling coach Josh McLay has resigned to take the same position at Eagan High School. WHS Activities Director John Soma confirmed that McLay accepted the Eagan post and that the split was amicable between the coach and school. "We wish him the best of luck," Soma said. "It was a move he had to make in the best interests of his family." McLay was hired previous to the 2007-08 season after serving as an assistant coach at Hastings, where he also wrestled in his high school days before moving on to compete at the University of Minnesota. His one-year term as Royals' coach coincided with a rise in numbers for the wrestling program and increased success in competition. Soma credited McLay for both. "He did a fantastic job here and it will be a huge spot to fill," Soma said. "I'm sure he will succeed in the classroom and on the mat at Eagan." McLay was not immediately available for comment.
