The Shattuck Indians set a National Eight-Man football record with its 91st consecutive victory in a win over Goodwell 40-14. The last loss for Shattuck came in 2002 when Pond Creek-Hunter beat the Indians in the Class C semifinals.
The record was held by the 1989-1995 Morrison, Oklahoma teams that won 90 straight games.
"We kept plugging away and we did it. I'm just going to soak it in. I can't say words that express it. It's meaningful for the town of Shattuck," Shattuck coach Troy Bullard told the AP.
After the game current and past players that made up the streak celebrated and received t-shirts commemorating the event. On hand were members of the State Senate and House as well as Lt. Govenor Jari Askins.
The Indians will look to extend the streak as it faces Buffalo. Shattuck's streak could reach 96 games if they finish the season with the state title, something they have done the past six seasons in capturing the gold ball.
