Knightdale announces first Triangle Tip Off Tournament to feature local basketball teams

This year Knightdale is kicking off the Thanksgiving weekend in a whole new way. Knightdale Basketball Coach Battle Watkins has organized the first Triangle Tip Off Tournament set for Nov. 27 and 28.

“We wanted to expose people to our school in a positive light,” said Watkins.

Since starting the basketball program at Knightdale six years ago, Watkins has been searching for an opportunity for the school to host a tournament. For the last three years Knightdale has been invited to the Glaxo Smith Kline Holiday Tournament. The Knights weren’t invited this year, but Watkins?recognized that as an opportunity to start Knightdale’s own holiday tournament to serve as a fundraiser for the school and a chance to compete with other local teams. VYPE High School Sports Magazine and?99.9 The Fan are presenting sponsors. Dick’s Sporting Goods and Duke Orthopedic will also be sponsoring the event.

Four boy's and four girl's teams will compete at the event to for the title of Triangle Tip Off Champions. The boy’s bracket includes East Chapel Hill, Wilson Fike, Rocky Mount and Knightdale. On the girl’s bracket are Wake Forest-Rolesville, Wilson Fike, Rocky Mount and Knightdale.

“If it is a success, we may be able to draw teams outside our area,” said Watkins.

The games will be set on an alternating schedule of boys and girls teams, starting with a girl’s game at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 27. Tickets can be purchased at the door and the fee will cover every game for both Friday and Saturday. Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
