VYPE Central Arkansas Game of the Week: Fountain Lake 42, Arkansas Baptist 6

Fountain Lake used a potent ground attack to race to a 29-0 halftime lead on the way to a 42-6 win against Arkansas Baptist Friday night. The Cobras invoked the 35-point “mercy rule” in the third quarter.

“We were worried about being sluggish because we didn’t have school (Friday),” Fountain Lake coach Tommy Gilleran said. “We got them up at 11, so they didn’t sleep all day and brought them to Little Rock to go to a movie and have supper. I thought we came out and played well.”

Junior running back Mark Makin ran 17 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Senior quarterback David Gray added 184 total yards and ran for a touchdown.

Senior running back Tyler Snyder ran for 77 yards and a touchdown. Junior running back John Curtis racked up 70 rushing yards, including a late 46-yard touchdown.

Baptist, who was held to 61 yards in the first half, scored its touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jon Moon to Danny Aday.

Fountain Lake (7-1, 5-0) should move to No. 2 in the VYPE/AAA 3A Coaches’ Poll after Lamar’s upset loss to Perryville Friday night. The Cobras can clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win either of the next two weeks.
