Argyle, along with Aledo and Arlington Seguin, advanced to the regional semifinals.
Outside of Argyle, Aledo and Arlington Seguin, Tuesday was not a memorable day for area volleyball teams. All of the remaining 5A representatives from the area were ousted from the UIL playoffs. Only Aledo and Seguin are left to carry the banner for Fort Worth-Denton in 4A. The Ladycats beat Mansfield Legacy in four games, while Seguin was taken to the wire against Birdville. The Lady Cougars escaped the Lady Hawks in a five-game marathon in which the final game went to 16-14. Aledo will next face Canyon Randall (40-3) in the regional semifinals; the other semifinal will pit Seguin against Hereford (41-3). Those matches will be played on Friday at Angelo State University.
Argyle swept Bonham to set up a date against Princeton Friday in the Region II semifinals.
Meanwhile, the 5A regional playoffs will commence without local representation. Carroll, Martin, Marcus, and Arlington were all knocked out in the regional quarterfinals this week. State powerhouse Amarillo dealt Martin an exit for the second consecutive season. Plano West knocked Carroll out in a five-game match. Marcus and Plano East battled through five games and then some, with East finally prevailing 19-17 in the final frame. Arlington also took Amarillo Tascosa to five games, falling in the final set 15-13.
