There were no real surprises in this week’s bi-district volleyball playoffs, though there were some marathon matches that really made you feel for the team on the losing end. One such match was Birdville vs. Denton Ryan. We expected this to be a battle and it certainly proved to be one of the intriguing early round matchups. Ryan jumped to a 2-0 lead before Birdville stormed back to take the match in five games. The Lady Hawks will next face Mansfield Timberview.
Marcus also survived a difficult first-round opponent in Keller Central. The Lady Marauders needed five games to oust the Lady Chargers. Marcus will likely be tested again in the area round versus Allen.
Colleyville Heritage and Hebron not only needed five games, but extra points to decide a winner. Hebron, down 0-2, won the third set 29-27 to stay alive, then won game four to force a decisive fifth game in which the Lady Hawks prevailed 16-14.
All four seeds from District 6-5A advanced, with Carroll, Coppell, Marcus and Hebron sweeping out the representatives from 5-5A.
