Regional Hoops Tourney Coming To Fort Worth

The 2009 5A Region I basketball tournaments will be held in Fort Worth.
If a local 5A team qualifies for the regional basketball tournament this upcoming season, it won’t have far to travel. The UIL announced this week that the FWISD’s Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center will host the 5A Region I girls and boys tournaments. Each tournament will include four teams, the winner of which will advance to the state tournament in Austin.
The tournaments were previously held in Abilene, but UIL athletic director Charles Breithaupt said the number of Dallas-Fort Worth teams advancing to the tournaments helped make the decision to move the tournaments. Last season’s 5A Region I tournament included North Crowley, Duncanville, Midland Lee and Colleyville Heritage. The girls bracket featured Timberview, DeSoto, Summit and Duncanville.
The girls tournament will be held Feb. 27-28; the boys March 6-7.
