Fort Worth is known as Cowtown, and that isn’t lost on this group of high school athletes. The end of the school year also brought the end of a grueling high school rodeo campaign, culminating in the North Texas High School Rodeo Association finals at Cowtown Coliseum in the Stockyards. Here are some of this year’s top performers.
Jake Snyder – Pilot Point
Snyder finished the season atop the standings in bareback, beating out a familiar opponent, his brother Joey Snyder.
Taylor Stout – Ponder
Stout edged out Boswell’s Cade McLaughlin to take the season title in calf roping.
Riley Greene – Peaster
Greene was the top rookie cowgirl in 2007-2008. Shown here in breakaway roping, Greene finished the season runner-up in barrel racing.
Shady Foreman – Marcus
Foreman was the runner-up for all-around cowgirl. She finished the season first in steer undecorating, third in breakaway roping, and fourth in goat tying.
Brittany Palmer – Springtown
Fifth in the all-around cowgirl standings, Palmer was second in steer undecorating and fifth in goat tying.
Keondrick Akins – Legacy
Akins finished in the top ten for all-around cowboy. He was third in ribbon roping.
Sterling Wallace – Northwest
Fourth in the all-around cowboy standings, Wallace was the runaway winner in steer wrestling.
Josh Holder – Weatherford
Holder had a nice showing at the finals rodeo to finish second on the season in chute dogging.
Natalie Dennis – Burleson
