I have always wanted to be a Journalist.
Where do I start?

Austin Chadwick
Editor-in-Chief
Obviously you have to love what you do. The beauty of working for HSSTM is that everyone around you loves sports and loves their jobs. We are a very close family and when you get an opportunity to do something you love everyday, then it really isn’t considered work. The key components in working for the magazine are dedication, loyalty, and hard work. You match all three of those with a love for sports and HSSTM, and you have yourself a situation that is almost euphoric.

Learn everything you can about the online business.  I had worked in the online sports business for 6 years before I was able to actually do it full time.  Sometimes you have to pay your dues for awhile, but keep working hard and keep learning the trends of where the online business is heading.  Find a job you love and you’ll never have to “work” a day in your life.

You should know everything there is to know about Adobe creative suite 3 or just act like you do. The best training is jumping in head first and learning from the best... us of course. Another great way to get a job here is to know Brad Heath or someone that works here who is equally awesome. (He's my boss, brownie points, score!)

Ladies, let’s crush the myth once and for all.  You can walk in to a sports magazine firm, offer to answer the phones, and work your way to management.  Sure, it might require more proven worth, but it is possible.  Decide and focus on what role you want to achieve.  Dedicate yourself to reaching that by overachieving and working hard.  You must have a passion for publishing and sports; otherwise, it will become a job rather than a career.

Know your subject and be the best at getting information. Have an eye for pictures and don’t be afraid to ask for something. Read as much as you can and learn different ways people interview sports figures. Write some stuff on your own and submit it to the editor for review. Recap games, tournaments and interview players when possible. Of course you can always bluff your way in and produce after you have the job.
