Dustin and Brooke play for Broken Arrow while dad coaches at Nathan Hale and mom attempts to balance it all out. And you thought your schedule was tough!

I try to be dad when I’m at their games. I just want to be a parent. I trust their coaches so much and know that they’re in good hands

Floyd Scott is the head baseball coach at Nathan Hale High School. Coach Scott loves his Hale Rangers and is proud to tell you where he coaches and about his kids. His challenge comes when his two children, Brooke the freshman and Dustin a sophomore, have games or matches of their own for their school, Broken Arrow. “I try to be dad when I’m at their games. I just want to be a parent. I trust their coaches so much and know that they’re in good hands,” said coach Scott. But sometimes the coach in him takes over, just ask Brooke, “We talk about the things I did right and the things I did wrong. I think it helps me.”
For Robbie Scott (mom) the balancing act is tough, but after several years of managing their schedules and getting the routine down it’s gotten easier. “Once you think you’re done with a season here at school you’re really not done. Sometimes Brooke is playing basketball on two different teams,” said Robbie.
Dustin has made the varsity wrestling team at Broken Arrow and anyone who knows anything about wrestling knows how tough it is to make the team. “Dad usually comes out to my matches to watch. I get to watch Brooke play softball sometimes and she’s a pretty good player,” said Dustin. Brooke will attend a match or two to watch her brother as well, “I go just to watch him I really don’t watch anyone else.”
So what awaits this family of athletes and coaches? More games, more matches and more juggling of schedules to make sure mom or dad is in attendance. “I will make his next wrestling match and Robbie will go to Brooke’s basketball game. That’s how we usually work the schedule, but when we can we both try to make as many games together as we can. I just want to enjoy the games and watch as a dad. I get to coach at Hale so when I’m in the stands I just want to be a parent,” said coach Scott.
You can expect to see much more from the Scoot family. Dad’s baseball team has steadily improved while both Dustin and Brooke have made the varsity squads at Broken Arrow. And one thing certain, Robbie will be there to support all three.
