For the Tulsa Rockhounds the objective is to teach the game of baseball in a fun competitive environment. The Rockhounds are different and unique. They are made up of all girls and yes, they are having fun.
They began their quest for a championship on July 21, but the fun started long ago for players Cora Avlos, Cassidye Berry, Bren Bilyeu, Katy Farrow, Zoe Fritz, Carson Hazel, Hannah Hubler, Gabbie Inman, Nicole Merrill, Jillian Newfield, Hannah Rodehaver, Lily Rowan and Juliet Roy.
This is a unit where everyone contributes. Hazel possess a strong throwing arm from the outfield and is not afraid to challenge baserunners with her arm.
Farrow provides good experience from the outfield and has been coming on strong with the bat.
Hubler is batting .1000 at the plate and leads the team in stolen bases. She isn’t afraid to tell the boys what she thinks.
Fritz has great power and is versatile in the field where she plays multiple positions. She loves to put hard tags on the boys.
Inman, like Fritz, give the Rockhounds solid power with the bat and leads the team in doubles. She is one of the league’s best third basemen.
Merrill hits third in the order and is one of the league’s best all-around fielders.
Roy is an all-star second baseman. She can hit anywhere in the lineup and make a major impact. She his hitting over .800.
Avlos is a returning starting catcher for the Rockhounds and has shown the ability to hit for power with the bat.
Rowan is a very strong utility player, specializing in center field and second base. She’s a vacuum sweeping up balls anywhere in her path.
Rodehaver and Berry are two new recruits from the soccer program at Grissom. They look to make a major impact for the Rockhounds.
Bilyeu and Newfield are also two new additions for the Rockhounds. They are no strangers to baseball or to sacrificing their bodies. Bilyeu made a trip to the hospital after the first game of the season, and Newfield has made stops at catcher with no regard to her body.
The girls have had some tight games, but no one can say that they can’t compete, and they are having a blast doing it against the boys.
