As the Oklahoma summer heats up, so too does the preparations for next fall’s football season. Although there is no class in session, high school football student-athletes are giving up valuable free time and are busy getting ready to make the big push for district and state championships. For a few weeks in mid-June, The University of Tulsa and its coaching staff plays host to over 1,000 student athletes from high schools across Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Arkansas.

The annual summer camp at The University of Tulsa provides a unique experience for these high school athletes. At this camp, players leave their own beds and houses and bunk up for the week in the dorms abandoned by the departed TU students. Many players and coaches feel that this provides players an advantage to establish relationships and create the important bonds needed in the game of football. Camp sessions last for a week and include three practices a day as well meetings with the TU coaching staff. The camp provides players and coaches a fantastic opportunity to gain great insight into a higher level of football.

The additional benefit to attending the TU football camp is that each team has the opportunity to gain exposure to a number of different teams from different states. By having three practices a day, teams get a lot of repetitions against a variety of different offenses and defenses. The extra practice and insight is invaluable for teams and gives them an advantage over their competions before they begin two-a-day practices in the fall.
