Jon Michael McGrath Comes Close to Realizing Olympic Dream!
Eastern Oklahoma, OK

Jon Michael McGrath broke his first clay target shooting skeet at a Boy Scout Camp when he was 11 years old. A short four years later, he came very close to becoming a member of the 2008 Olympic Skeet Team.
McGrath placed fourth at the 2008 Olympic Team Trials, held recently in Colorado Springs, CO. McGrath placed ahead of two former Olympians, finishing just 14 targets behind first place shooter Vincent Hancock.
McGrath may not be heading to Beijing, but his championship shooting earned him a spot representing the United States at upcoming World Cup Championships in Kerrville, TX from May 2 – 4 and in Suhl, Germany from June 6 – 13.
McGrath won several championships in the American Skeet circuit and was dubbed a “phenom” for his innate talent at such a young age. The move over to the International/Olympic venue caused many to hold their breath, but Jon Michael never missed a beat. Clearly, the “Phenom” dub was well deserved!
McGrath keeps a positive outlook, confident he will return in four years with sights set on a 2012 Olympic Team spot. In true champion form and camaraderie, McGrath wished 2008 Olympic Team members Vincent Hancock and Randal McLellan luck and looks forward to seeing them on the podium in Beijing.
No doubt McGrath will spend the next four years honing his skills and growing stronger as a champion.
