It has definitely raised the level of competition, but at the same time there are more opportunities for young ladies to have the chance to play at the college level if that is what their goal is to do.

It depends on the particular sport. In some instances it is easier, because programs recruit athletes from other sports to fill scholarships. On the other hand, the increased level of competition and the increased number of athletes in the more popular sports has made it harder to get scholarships. The internet has also impacted this issue, as it is now much easier to learn about school programs, coaches and the type of athletes they recruit.

The girls athletic departments are going stronger than ever, coming from a junior college to a high school program, I have noticed that the competition level has rose tremendously in the last seven years. I think personally this is due to the fact of increased competition and technology to make these student athletes better year after year. I personally believe that it has made it more difficult for female athletes to obtain scholarships at the higher level of collegiate sports but, all and all there is a place for everyone to get the opportunity to play collegiate sports with the wide array of colleges at many different levels. For each student athletes level of play there is in turn a collegiate program for every level of competitor.

It is much easier for women athletes to receive a scholarship today, due to the fact that more money is available. I believe there are a lot of young women athletes that come out of high school that don't pursue an athletic scholarship because they don't realize how much is available to them. As women's sports continues to grow along with the cost of an education, you will see scholarship money become more difficult to obtain.
