Division I
District 1
John Paul II Cardinals
Coach: David Gaffney
2007 Record: 0-10
Returning Lettermen: 22
Returning Starters: 7 Off./7 Def.
Players to watch: QB Gage Anderie, DB/RB Michael Apt, WR/QB John Templeton, DB/RB Dante Flick, LB/RB Carl Meziere, LB/RB Daniel Parfitt, DB/WR Andrew Curlaugh, WR Josh Tates, DB/WR Hanford Dunn, DB/WR Garrett Cook, DL/OL Joe Scott, OL/DL Kevin Loenard, OL/DL Ryan Mastellar, OL/DL Will Baker, DL/OL Kyle Johnson, OL/DL Nick Comer, DL/OL Kevin Burnett, OL/DL Thomas Bianchin, OL/DL T. Outlook: The Cardinals hope to make strides offensively after their spread attack struggled to score points in 2007. The good news is that the offense began to show improvement in the final two games of the season. Anderie has a full’s season under his belt and Apt provides excellent speed. John Paul II’s young football program should also get a boost when the school opens a new stadium complex on campus.

Weiss (6-0, 200, 4.9) and Mattes (5-11, 185, 4.9) will provide pressure on defense.
Division IV
District 2
Canyon Creek Christian Academy Cougars
Coach: Larry Thexton
2007 Record: 6-5, DIII bi-district qualifiers

Players to watch: RB Rett Miller, RB Andre Moorehead, QB Cohl Tufford, OL Cedric Craine, S Keegan Clem, C Evan Oswald, RB David McCallup, OL Chris Smythe, OL Tyler Gilbreath, RB Josh Poteete, OL David Brenner
Outlook: The Cougars are geared to run behind Miller (6-0, 195, 4.7) and Moorehead (5-8, 175, 4.6). Miller rushed for 1,760 yards and 22 TDs in 2007. Moorehead added more than 900 yards and 11 TDs. Tufford returns after passing for seven TDs last season. Crane (6-6, 292) gives the Cougars good size on the offensive line.
Legacy Christian Academy Eagles

Returning Lettermen: 13
Returning Starters: 7 Off./6 Def.
Players to watch: RB Logan Allison, QB/LB Casey Mauch, WR Cody Mitchell, DL Austin Choate, WR Lucas Allison, OL Derek Burns
Outlook: The Eagles lost some offensive firepower to graduation, but return all-state RB Logan Allison returns as a multiple threat. Gone are QB John Barthalt and RB Jake Martinez who combined for more than 2,000 yards of offense in 2007. Logan Allison’s brother, Lucas, was an all-district receiver last season. Choate returns to anchor the defensive line.
McKinney Christian Mustangs
Coach: Kevin Fields
2007 Record: 1-7
Returning Lettermen: 20
Returning Starters: 6 Off./5 Def.
Players to watch: RB Winston Ray, QB Scott Temple, WR Hayden French, G Austin Puckett, RB/LB Jin Pyo, RB Chris Shin, DL Michael Nichols, DL Tanner Purdum
Outlook: The Mustangs expect great improvement in their second season playing 11-man ball. Ray, who was injured during his freshman season, should reclaim his starting role in the backfield. Pyo and Shin will also contribute to the running game. Temple also returns along with his favorite receiver French. Puckett anchors the offensive line. Nichols, a freshman, and Purdum will strengthen the defensive line.

| | Too bad you have old information for JPII. Of the players listed, 6 are not returning and one has graduated! The Cardinals are definitely pumped this year with a new field giving them a true home field advantage. Watch for QB Jordan Green to excel behind a strong and experienced offensive line (Justin Kirst, Ryan Mastellar, Kevin Leonard, and Kevin Burnett). Dante Flick is a quick defensive back with Joe Hoffman and Daniel Parfitt doing a great job at linebacker. John Templeton will hopefully be making those touchdowns again this year at wide receiver. Good luck to the Cardinals!!! |
