Celina, Wakeland Take Honors

Baker, Cronin named 9-3A’s Most Valuable Players
Celina and Frisco Wakeland continued their duel for District 9-3A baseball and softball prominence into the postseason. Wakeland’s Jordan Baker and Celina’s Joey Cronin earned the district’s baseball and softball Most Valuable Player honors, respectively. Baker was 8-2 for the Wolverines with a 1.63 ERA. Cronin batted .519 with 41 RBIs and seven home runs.
Celina’s Troy McCartney was named Defensive Player of the Year and Wakeland’s Ryan Johnson was elected Newcomer of the Year and Paul Offill was voted Coach of the Year.
Princeton’s Nick Naudin broke up the Celina-Wakeland postseason party in being named Offensive Player of the Year.
The Wolverines claimed more individual softball honors including Pitcher of the Year Alexis Cantu and Coach of the Year Chris Southard. The Bobcats’ Jasmine San Miguel was voted Catcher of the Year. Celina’s Brittanie Knowles and Wakeland’s Kelci Garcia were selected co-Most Valuable Players.
