The McKinney Lions were downright offensive in 2008. Coach Alan Pocock’s team literally led the area in scoring, averaging an eye-popping 5.95 goals per game. While the Lions were loaded with offensive talent such as Zach Funk (22 goals, 20 assists) and Shane Curtis (12 goals, 19assists), it was London Woodberry who made opposing defense shudder most.

The 2008 All-Collin County Soccer Team’s Most Valuable Player set a school single-season record with 38 goals for the Lions (including 33 in the regular season) helping them advance to the Class 4A quarterfinal playoffs. Woodberry’s playoff production included a hat trick in an area playoff win over rival Frisco.

Allen’s leading goal scorer Colin O’Donnell was voted Offensive Player of the Year. Defensive Player of the Year Anthony Gerhart and O’Donnell helped lead the Eagles to the regional finals.

McKinney Boyd sophomore playmaker Conor Doyle earned Newcomer of the Year honors.

The Coach of the Year vote was split between Frisco’s Daniel Dollinger and Allen’s Mike Wiersma, who both led their teams deep into the playoffs.
