Collin County wrestlers grab gold and qualify for state
Trinity Christian Academy wrestlers won two TAPPS state wrestling titles to help the Trojans finish third. TCA wrestlers Jeff Scovell won gold in the 140-pound division and Keith Prater won the 189-pound class. Teammates Hampton Roese (119), Paul Winker (152) and James Voelker (215) finished second in their respective weights.
Defending state champion Emily Martin of Frisco Centennial led a large contingent of Collin County wrestlers headed for the University Interscholastic League state meet in Austin.
Martin won the 110-pound division after winning the Region II meet. Other Collin County regional winners include Centennial’s Cody Curtiss (103), Allen’s Roderick Gaines (112) and Kiara Swain (215), Plano West’s Evan Burns (119) and Frisco’s Kirsten Strickler (128) and Allannah Griego (165).
