Soccer gets bashed all the time for the fact that some think the sport is too slow. Well, HSSTM took it to the streets. We asked a few coaches to tell us the truth: What’s better, a high-scoring or low-scoring game?
Soccer gets bashed all the time for the fact that some think the sport is too slow. Well, HSSTM took it to the streets. We asked a few coaches to tell us the truth: What’s better, a high-scoring or low-scoring game?
Randall Robison
Westmoore boys coach
"The traditionalist in me says a good defensive battle. But in high school I have seen a lot of great high scoring games. For pure excitement, you want people to go from the game saying, "Wow, what a game." That usually comes from a high scoring game. So that gets my vote."
Tommy Riley
Heritage Hall boys coach
"Personally, I think low scoring games are more exciting because there's defense being played on both sides. It shows that the teams are well organized. High scoring games, there are usually a lot of mistakes."
Jay Coleman
Norman North girls coach
"They can both be exciting. But the more important aspect for me is that it's a beautiful game. A beautiful game can be zero, zero or it can be 5-4. The goals are not influential in what makes it a beautiful game. It's exciting to me to see the individual flair, the creativity, the dribbling and passing skills displayed on the field. That's what makes it an exciting game to me, not the score."
Mike Mason
Mustang - Girls Coach
We play with three forwards so I say that a high scoring game is more exciting. Both have their attractive deals of play. But we prefer to be the team attacking constantly. The three forwards puts the opponents on their heels. We are successful with it. The girls have fun playing offensively. It makes the players be on their toes because they are not playing conservatively.
