Brandywine Heights- Wrestling Coach

“With a strong offensive move like the cradle, you can quickly get yourself into a position to turn a match to your advantage. A pin is what you are ultimately trying to accomplish. You could be losing thirteen to nothing; but if you can get your opponent in a cradle, you are right back in the match. It is by far the ultimate maneuver.”

Peter Wallace
Twin Valley- Wrestling Coach
“In our program, I stress the Half-nelson. When a kid gets into the third period of a match, he can get tired and start to hang his head a little bit. That’s when a Half-nelson makes for an easy pinning move, catching a wrestler off guard and taking advantage of the situation.”

Matt Schwenk
Exeter- Wrestling Coach
“A good stance is extremely important in the sport of wrestling. It is one of the most basic concepts to learn, but if you learn it and use it, you will be able to master all of the other techniques. Ninety percent of the wrestling on the district and state level is going to be on your feet. If you have a good stance you can set up a decent takedown and be successful on the wrestling mat.”

Russell Ludwig
Central Catholic- Wrestling Coach
“It would have to be the single-leg takedown. There are many other maneuvers to learn, and this is a difficult one, but it is the most important move in wrestling. Takedowns are what score the points in this sport.
