How much does the weather affect your team especially when you’re forced to cancel games and practices?
How much does the weather affect your team especially when you’re forced to cancel games and practices?
Jimmie Walker
Nathan Hale High School
With new coaches on board it makes things hard because we’re all trying to get on the same page. We played four games in seven days so the break was actually kind of nice. It gave me a chance to watch film and make corrections. We only had one game cancel with Webster and we’re trying to reschedule that for mid-January.

Oologah High School
Most of our focus is on the season after Christmas. We have football players playing in the playoffs plus we always count on some type of weather conditions that affect us. We will open the gym on days that we’re out of school for all players and give them a chance to keep up any of their skills that they have acquired to that point. We like to win but we know that it’s how you’re playing in February that determines the outcome of the season.
Gary Kennemer
Verdigris High School
We have spent enough time before the storm and will have plenty of time afterwards that I do not feel there will be a major or long lasting effect on our team. I would be more concerned had we not already played some games. The season is long and what happens now will have no effect in 2 months. I am concerned about the stress level of those kids who are still without power.
Leroy Qualls
Sequoyah High School
We were fortunate enough to miss the ice storm so it really didn’t affect us too much. We had no games cancel so it was a normal week, but for those teams that did I think missing a week of practice early in the season doesn’t hurt you as bad as it would later. You can also look at it another way, if the players can get to the gym then that’s more time to practice. Weather is an emotional roller coaster for the players. Not knowing when you’re going to play or if your opponent can play is tough.
