Since it includes Valentine’s Day, February is often called the Month of Love. So, HSSTM asked area coaches what it is they love about their jobs. Here’s what they had to say:

Timberview Boys Basketball
I have always wanted to be a coach since I was a small child. Athletics has always been an important part of my life. As I have continued to coach, the more I have learned that it is less about Xs and Os and more about relationships. I have really enjoyed working with all the players I have had the opportunity to work with. The relationships we build on a team are relationships that last a life time.
Natasha Stewart
Mansfield Girls Basketball
I love developing relationships with young people. I embrace the idea of helping them learn about life while doing something we both love (coaching and playing basketball). Teaching kids to be responsible, team players who will work hard at accomplishing what they want in life is a rewarding experience for me. I am fortunate to get paid to do something that I am passionate about.
Shannon Molloy
Saginaw Girls Basketball
I love the fact that I get to interact with some of the top student leaders, academically and athletically, in our school. It is nice to see daily examples of young adults who want to succeed both on and off the playing court. Their individual motivation to rise above life’s obstacles inspires me to come to work each day. These girls will be America’s future business leaders, teachers, scientists, doctors, day care providers and homemakers. To have the opportunity to be a part of their growth into those roles is what I love most about my job.
Steve Ganninger
Grapevine Girls Basketball
What I love about coaching is that I have the opportunity to help shape young peoples’ lives in a positive way. I try to teach the value of hard work and dedication and how it helps to achieve goals. I try to also help my players understand that they should always be pushing themselves to be better than they were yesterday. The possibility of making a positive difference in one of my players’ lives is what keeps me motivated every day to do the best I can.
