Football season is over, so we asked a few area coaches what their favorite memory from the season was. Here’s what they had to say:
Phil Koons,
Tuttle
"It's probably going to Vinita in the (Class 3A) quarterfinals and winning that game. Winning 10 games and going to the semifinals was special. But we beat a very talented team in Vinita and we had to travel a long way to beat a team of that caliber to do it. And I reached a milestone with my 150th win."
Dennis McCray,
Washington
"There are so many during a long season. The most memorable one, though, is not a positive one. It's losing the fourth quarter lead to Okeene in the (Class A) semifinals. We were up 23-14 to start the fourth quarter and we lost 30-23. That was very tough. It's not a positive memory, but it's the one that sticks out right now."
Jeff Myers
Kingfisher
"It was definitely the (3A) state final game. It didn't turn out how we wanted it to, losing to Clinton. But it was good to be there. I was proud of the way our kids played. Anytime you reach a state final, it's special. The game, the fans and the atmosphere were great."
Steve Huff
Midwest City
"It was Senior Night for our kids. There was so much going on. We finished first in the district by beating Putnam City 14-7. We finished an undefeated regular season. And after the game, I had to go straight to the hospital because my wife was in labor. We had a baby the next morning."
