What influenced you to become a coach?
Tim Sager
Head coach, White Bear Lake boys hockey
The main reason I went into coaching was because I had tremendous youth coaches when I was growing up. All of them helped me become the person I am. They taught me self-discipline, a work ethic, how to work with others to accomplish a goal and most of all they cared about me as a person. I would like to thank these youth coaches that I had; Bernie Koalska, Al Spangenberg, Les Blaze, Jeff Shie, Dennis Denning, the late Fred Zeimer and Jeff Sauer.  Thank you gentlemen for taking the time to help me.
Mark Loahr
Head coach, Totino-Grace boys hockey
Coaching became a passion of mine as I began to move toward a career in teaching. I coached as a student in college and realized it was a way to interact with students on a different level. Coaching gave me a chance to understand students in a different context, a more relaxed setting than a classroom and they could see me in a different way as well. This made teaching much easier, having a better relationship with these students. I have always believed coaching has made me a better teacher and teaching made me a better coach.
Stephanie Tolkinen
Head coach, Park girls basketball
I have always enjoyed participating and watching athletics at all levels. I had wanted to be a teacher since elementary school. While participating at the high school level, I had a basketball coach that was very enthusiastic and motivating. His enthusiasm for teaching and coaching inspired me to coach as well.
Brian Lynch
Asst. coach, DeLaSalle boys basketball
I am a firm believer that athletics, if coached and played the correct way, can provide many important lessons that can be applied off of the court. The benefits of hard work, dedication, teamwork and leadership can all be learned from participation in sports and it has been important for me to try and pass on some of these lessons to others.
