As the fall season gets underway, here’s what a few area athletes had to say about how important their dad is in their life.
Ashley Albert
School: Edmond North
Sport: Volleyball
Dad’s name: Vic
"My dad and I are very similar. We have the same personality. We are very laid back. He is my rock. I look up to him for guidance. He is my No. 1 fan.’’
Sarah Fipps
School: Noble
Sport: Softball
Father's Name: Randy
"He's always been there for me. After every inning I pitch we hit each other's fists. That keeps me in the right mindset to perform well on the mound. I love him very much. He helps me in everything I do. I couldn't get by without him, on and off the field."
Nick Murray
School: Putnam City West
Sport: Football
Dad’s name: Randy
“He’s always at the games and it’s always been that way. I like when we can talk about the games and we’ve always talked about sports and I like to ask him things. We talk about wins and losses but we reflect on lots of different things.’’
The Katigans – Drew, Austin and Mac
School: Casady
Sport: Football
Dad’s name: Steve
“As far as sports go, he means everything. He never misses a game and makes time to support us. We’re always traveling and he always comes with us. We all feel the same way. When it gets hectic, and there’s so many games, you know you can count on him to be there to see every one of us,’’ said Austin.
Amy Kangas
School: Stillwater
Sport: Volleyball
Dad’s name: Mike
"My dad always pushes me to do the best I can. Whatever I do, he is there for me. He is always proud of me in whatever I do. I have looked up to him my whole life. He is a person who always knows what to say at the right moments. He is just a phenomenal person. He is there for me through the good and the bad."
McKenzie Clemmons
School: Piedmont
Sport: Softball
Dad’s name: Tim
“My dad means everything to me. He has gotten me to where I am today. He is my confidence. I have to have him in my life. He puts in a lot of hard work in everything he does, and I have learned that from him. He is the best."
Destin Stewart and his brother Damaris
School: Douglass
Sport: Football
Dad’s name: Dominic
“My father means a lot to me. He inspires me to work hard even when I don’t feel like working. He's always there to encourage me when things aren't going well. When my dad realizes that I am not working to my full potential, he always gives me positive criticism. If I could, I would take care of him so he wouldn't have to work. That would be my treat to him for being such a great father,’’ said Destin.
