District 2A-2

Prediction

1. Millwood
2. Jones
3. Lexington
4. Bethel
5. Meeker
6. Little Axe
7. Centennial
8. Seeworth Academy

What you need to know: The district is pretty clear cut as far as who will be int he playoffs. There is a huge dropoff in talent after Millwood, Jones, Lexington and Bethel. Centennial is a new program, Seeworth is playing in 2A for the first time and Little Axe has struggled mightily for the past several years. This is a district Millwood should run away with. Millwood went through an uncharacteristic transition and missed the playoffs after playing a lot of young players. Expect the Falcons to bounce back to its old talented form. They are the team to beat in the district, but will have a battle to win the district. Jones and Bethel each return some talent from teams that made the playoffs a year ago while Lexington has a lot of depth from a team that had one of its best seasons in school history, advancing to the second round of the playoffs with seven wins.

Player to watch: Kevonte Richardson, Millwood. The Falcons have produced quite a few talented quarterbacks over the years (Donovan Woods, Gerald Jones) and Richardson has the skill to keep the tradition going. He has a strong arm and can run. The sophomore started seven games a year ago and threw for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Others to check out: RB Josh Boatman, Bethel(5-9, 185, jr.); FB/LB Nathan Henthorn, Jones(6-0, 175, jr.); RB Dayton Gambrell, Meeker(5-10, 165, sr.); LB Travon Henry, Millwood(6-2, 220, jr.); WR/DB Chris Randalls, Seeworth Academy(5-10, 160, jr.); DeJuan Walker, Centennial; QB Seth Howard, Lexington(5-8, 150, jr.); WR Jake McCurry, Little Axe(6-2, 160, sr.).

One game you have to see: Millwood at Lexington on Oct. 10. This game could determine who is the district champion. Millwood is the traditional power while Lexington had one of its best seasons in school history a year ago. Both teams have good offensive players so there could be plenty of scoring.
