Who won:

Boys: Edmond North (6A), Ardmore (5A), Bishop McGuinness (4A), Heritage Hall (3A), Washington (2A).

Girls: Edmond Memorial (6A), Duncan (5A), Clinton (4A), Kingfisher (3A), Pioneer (2A).



How it happened:

Edmond North boys – The Huskies captured their fourth straight state title. This year was one of the toughest ones, beating Jenks by four strokes 872-876. Edmond North did it by placing three golfers in the top five.

Edmond Memorial girls – The Bulldogs finally got past Jenks after finishing runner-up the past three seasons. This year Memorial made sure Jenks’ finished runner-up, beating the Trojans by 24 strokes – 651-675. It’s the first title for the program since 1991 when Edmond had just one school. The Bulldogs did it by placing four golfers in the top-10.

Duncan girls – Duncan captured its second straight state title, shooting a 714 to beat runner-up El Reno by 25 strokes.

Bishop McGuinness boys – Had to golfers finish in top-10. McGuinness won by 20 strokes over Hilldale 890-910.

Clinton girls – The Red Tornadoes captured both the individual and team title. Clinton won the team title by shooting a 705, beating runner-up Elk City by 18 strokes.

Heritage Hall boys – The Chargers won their first state championship since 1996 by blowing out the field. The nearest finisher was Purcell, which trailed the Chargers by 23 strokes – 946-969.

Kingfisher girls – The Yellowjackets had four girls finish in the top 10 to run away from the field. Their nearest competitor was defending champion Plainview. Kingfisher shot 655 while Plainview had a 683.

Washington boys – The Warriors edged second place finisher Fairview by six strokes – 927-933 – to capture the state title. Washington did it with three golfers finishing in the top-10.



Who impressed:

Boys:

Drew Dorsey, Edmond Santa Fe – The junior finished third in 6A, nine strokes behind the winner after shooting a 4-over 217.

Logan McCracken, Putnam City North – The junior finished tied for fifth after shooting a 5-over 218. That was 10 strokes behind the first place finisher.

Chandler Rusk and Geoff Shaw, Edmond North – Both finished in the top 10 and helped Edmond North win the team title. Rusk shot a 4-over 217 to finish fourth while Shaw finished tied for fifth after shooting a 5-under 218.

Ian Davis, Deer Creek – The junior finished in the top-10 in 5A for the second straight year. Last year he was eighth. This year, he finished fourth with a 5-over 215, eight strokes back.

Chad Bryant, Newcastle – The senior tied for fifth in 3A at 13-over 229, also eight strokes behind the winner.

Mathew Griffis, Bethany – He finished tied for fifth at 13-over 229, eight behind the leader.

Zach Dowdy, Washington – He finished third in 2A after shooting a 5-over 218, nie strokes behind the winner.

Jackson Ogle, Oklahoma Christian School – Ogle completed a fourth place finish in 2A with a 6-over 219, 10 strokes behind the winner.

Girls:

Mary Larsh, Edmond Memorial – Larsh led her team to the 6A state championship, finishing a team-high third after shooting a 16-over 158. That was seven strokes behind the winner.

Madison Haley, El Reno – Haley helped her team finish second by finishing third individually in 5A after shooting a 17-over 159.

Bethany Darrough and Andie Allen, Kingfisher – Darrough finished second in 3A, just one stroke behind the winner after shooting a 8-over 152. Allen finished fifth after shooting a 23-over 167.

Alisha Jenkins, Western Heights – She finished tied for fifth place in 5A after shooting a 23-over 165.



Who starred:

Boys:

Kyle Lewis, Bethel – The sophomore captured the 3A title by six strokes after shooting a 5-over 221. It was his second straight top-10 finish.

Daniel Stith, Bishop McGuinness – Stith battled a tough field and won the 4A title by two strokes with a 1-under 212. There were four golfers who finished within four strokes of the leader.

Talor Gooch, Carl Albert – The sophomore captured the 5A title by two strokes with 3-under 207 score.

Will Kropp, Edmond North – The senior finished second in 6A after shooting a 2-under 211, finishing three strokes behind Stephen Carney of Union.

Beau Streck, Kingfisher – Streck collected a second place finish in 3A after shooting an 11-over 227, which was three strokes behind Kyle Lewis of Bethel.

Chase Lindsey, Christian Heritage – The senior finished his career with a second place finish in 2A, just three strokes behind the winner, after shooting a 1-under 212.

Girls:

Kaitlin Higginbotham, Norman North – The senior finished second in 6A.

Taylor Neidy, Clinton – She captured the title in 4A by shooting a 16-over 162, winning by seven strokes over the nearest competitor.



The story to know:

This was the year of the first time state champions. McGuinness and Washington won their first state title on the boy’s side. On the girl’s side, Kingfisher, Clinton and Pioneer collected their first state championships.
