Poise In the Pocket
On opening night of district play, Wichita East overcame early offensive woes to upset previously undefeated Heights. The Aces jettisoned their anemic passing offense of the first half and instead fed Bryce Brown the ball in the second half to beat Heights 28-21. On the tail end of Brown’s 142-yard second-half performance, East quarterback Matt Byers (8) made a 20-yard completion late in the fourth quarter to set up Brown’s tying TD run.
