District 14

1. Hugoton (6-3) returns seven starters on offense, including senior FB/LB Caleb Gifford (6-0, 200), who rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 11 TDs. On defense, Gifford, senior RB/DB Bubba Beltz (5-9, 160, 6 INTs) and and senior LB Keithan Martin (5-10, 180) accounted for over 400 tackles.… 2. Ulysses… 3. Pratt (6-4) loses seven starters from an offense which produced a school record 3,598 total yards in 2008, but senior QB Skylar Angood (6-2, 175) returns to run things.

4. Kingman Eagles (0-9)

Coach Darby Jones did not win a game in his first season as coach. He looks to returning starters on the offensive and defensive lines to help push the team through the season. Senior linemen Kyle Berschauer (6-0, 190) and Breck Knoblauch (6-2, 225) lead the Eagles up front. Junior OL/LB Scott Osner (5-10, 175) will be Kingman’s leading force at linebacker.

Jones, a Nebraska native, spent time in Texas as an assistant at two schools before being named head coach at Kingman last summer. He anticipates a breakout season. –DP
