Title: District 10

1. Trinity Catholic (8-3)

Following 11 seasons as an assistant, Sean Racette turned around Trinity from a two-win team in 2007 to a playoff winner in 2008 in his first season as head coach.

Senior RB/SS Tanner Engweiler (5-10, 170) returns to both backfields after gaining over 1,000 yards rushing and 625 yards receiving and compiling 87 tackles and 9 interceptions. Junior QB/DB Derek Racette (6-0, 170) threw for over 1,600 yards and 16 TDs as  a sophomore.

Senior RB/LB Chase Clark (6-0, 200) and LB/OT Anthony Mendoza (6-2, 235, 90 tackles) return on defense.

2. Sedgwick (5-4)

Senior LB/FB Chase Cargile (5-10, 200) and six other returning starters on defense must limit opponents’ scores. Cargile is already Sedgwick High’s all-time leader in tackles entering his senior season.

Senior RB/LB Wade Hansen (5-9, 185, 1,115 rushing yards, 15 TDs) returns to the offense, as do three linemen, Nathan Thompson (6-2, 235), Gage Chandler (6-1, 240) and Jake Sperry (6-0, 225). –TW

3. Remington Broncos (3-6)

Following a rare losing season in which the pass-happy Broncos gained just 216 rushing yards, Remington returns a core of skilled young players. Junior WR/DB Jake Green (6-3, 160) had over 1,000 receiving yards in 2008.

Three offensive linemen, two tailbacks and two other wideouts also return for sixth-year coach Chris Lawler. Sophomore QB Caleb Cherryholmes (5-9, 150) is the brother 2008 Shrine Bowl quarterback, Cole. –TW

4. Halstead Dragons (6-5)

A year after winning only two games in 2007, Halstead and second-year coach Marc Svaty won a playoff game over Southeast of Saline in 2008.

Junior QB Simon McKee (6-0, 155, 863 passing yards) will throw the ball to senior WR/DB Cody Ratcliffe (5-9 155, 452 yards) and junior WR/DB Dakota Becker (5-10, 165) out of the spread. –TW
