The spotlight in the City League will be placed squarely on Carroll field Friday night when the Aces meet the Eagles. For those that love offense, there should be plenty of it on Friday when the state's top passer, Blake Bell, faces off against the state's top rusher, Bryce Brown. The Aces fly into Carroll field on Friday coming off of four victories against Dodge City, North, South, and Kapaun Mount Carmel. "I think we've gotten better every week so far," East coach Brian Byers said. "We just need to be more consistent on offense and do a better job of getting three and outs." The East defense has held opponents to an average of 11 points over those four contests and has been a major part of the success of the team. "The defensive unit as a whole has done a great job," Byers said. "Cornerback Cortez Webb had three interceptions last week. He has been a stand out for the defense so far. The defense plays really good as a unit." The Aces have moved to a spread offense this season, and running back Bryce Brown hasn't skipped a beat. "We've got a lot of good athletes that we want to get the ball to in space," Byers said. "Hopefully the spread out look will give Bryce more lanes to run the ball." Brown has run for 764 yards on 92 attempts this season, and he ran a kickoff back for a touchdown last week. On the other side, Carroll's Bell has thrown for 1183 yards in the first four games this year. "We have to slow down the passing game," Byers said. "We have to get pressure on the quarterback and give him some new looks in the secondary and try to confuse him a little bit and slow him down." Slow seems far from what fans will see this Friday in a contest between two potent offenses.
