High School Sports in Full Swing Saturday

After a full slate of high school football games yesterday, other area sports will take the stage on Saturday in the VYPE Central Kansas community. Kapaun and Southeast have survived the winners bracket to reach the finals of the Titan Invitational. Each team advanced with a 1-0 victory. The Crusaders took out Derby with a diving header by Polo Guzman in the second half. The Buffaloes defeated Northwest on a game-winner from Trent Remmich with 37 seconds left in the match. Southeast and Kapaun will square off in the championship of the Blue Bracket at 3 P.M. on Saturday at South. At the McPherson boys soccer Invitational, McPherson will face Independent in the championship Saturday, while Wichita Trinity and Andover Central will face off in the 5th place game. Cross Country meets begin on Saturday morning and several of the City League's top teams will participate in the Bishop Carroll meet which takes place at Lake Afton. Bishop Carroll, Kapaun, Heights, South, Northwest, and Southeast will be a few of the teams running tomorrow. Also, Maize and Derby will join the field. The JK Gold Classic is hosted by Wichita State University and will feature both collegiate and high school level races. Last season over ten area schools participated in the meet including McPherson, El Dorado, Wichita East, Campus, and Augusta. The meet will take place at RAFT golf course in Augusta. Wichita Collegiate will host a triangular tennis meet on Saturday with top state teams Salina Central and McPherson. The Central Kansas volleyball schedule will get off to a fast start beginning this week.
