Andale, defending state champion in Class 4A, is working to cultivate new talent in early practices

"When I put the pads on this year that was the best feeling ever," said Harp. "We just strapped it on and got right in to tackling drills and that was awesome."

The Andale Indians are coming off of back-to-back state championships and are currently in the midst of a 28-game winning streak. With close to 20 starters departing after graduation, the Indians are looking for new talent to develop. With over 100 guys out for football, they will have the numbers to find sufficient replacements.

We caught up with top returning linebacker and running back, Corey Harp, to find out how practices have been going:

On the first practice in pads of a new football season:
"When I put the pads on this year that was the best feeling ever," said Harp. "We just strapped it on and got right in to tackling drills and that was awesome."

On the running back situation at Andale after the departures of Levi Neely and Kyle Horsch:
"We're still not completely sure on our backfield situation," said Harp. "We have a lot of talent in the backfield, but I will probably see some time there as well."

On teammates that have been catching his attention in practice:
"Jake Jones has definitely done a good job at wide receiver and Gavin Scheer at offensive guard," said Harp. "Also Michael Eck at quarterback and Ted Tafoya in the backfield have been looking good."

Overall thoughts on practice:
"Practice has been going awesome," said Harp. "I have been working an awful lot on polishing up the offense and working on my defensive technique, just trying to get ready for the first game."

Seven days until Carroll faces Heights in the opener on September 4. Eight days until Harp gets to hit someone with a different colored jersey on.
