Diving Dreams Met
Three Central Indiana divers met their goal of advancing to the Beijing Olympics this month. Noblesville’s David Boudia (top) won the 10-meter platform event at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. The 19-year-old scored the maximum possible points in his final two dives (102, 108 points), using a reverse 3 ½ somersault and a back 3 ½ somersault to win the competition. Thomas Finchum (below), Boudia’s training partner, earned a spot on the U.S. Diving team by winning all four training camp competitions in early July. Elwood 15-year-old Mary Beth Dunnichay (right) finished sixth at the Trials and will also make the trip to China as a member of the women’s team.
