Washington drafted by Kansas City Chiefs

Franklin Central graduate Donald Washington was taken by the Kansas City Chiefs with the second pick in the fourth round during this weekend's 2009 NFL Draft. Regarded as one of best pure athletes at Ohio State University, Washington played three seasons with the Buckeyes before forgoing his senior year to enter the draft. The 6-foot-1, 197-pound cornerback improved his draft outlook with a strong performance at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, showcasing both his athleticism and speed. As a senior at Franklin Central, Washington was pegged as the best defensive back in the state with "big-play" ability. He also served as a wide receiver for the Flashes, hauling in 10 receiving touchdowns and averaging 17.0 yards a catch as a senior. Washington was also a two-time state champion long jumper in high school. As a freshman at OSU, Washington was named the team's most outstanding first-year defensive player, logging 41 tackles in 13 games. As a sophomore in 2007, he recorded 39 tackles and a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown for the national champion runner-up Buckeyes.
