Eric Gordon to present the 2009 Super Shootout City-County All-Star Game

Central Indiana, IN

Friday, April 17, 2009

After a one-year hiatus, the annual Super Shootout City-County Boys & Girls All-Star returns to Indianapolis. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at Warren Central High School Fieldhouse and brings with it a new tradition. This year, North Central alumni and NBA Rookie of the Year candidate, Eric Gordon of the Los Angeles Clippers will present the 2009 City-County All-Star Games, returning to Indianapolis to recognize high school student-athletes, who have excelled on the court. "This is an exciting time of the year for high school seniors," Gordon commented. "I want to help make this an even more special experience for Marion County basketball players." The doors will open at 11 a.m. with the girls game tipping off at noon. The boys game begins at 2 p.m. There will also be a boys Slam Dunk Spectacular and 3-Point Shootout along with a girls 3-Point Shootout and Hot-Shot Super Shoot. Advance tickets are available for $5 for groups and $7 for individuals at grouptickets@supershootout.org. Tickets may be purchased the day of the games for $10. Founded by a local group of basketball enthusiasts, the first City-County Super Shootout All-Stars were announced in 1991 and invited to showcase their skills at a local gym and offered several junior college scholarships. In 1992, the inaugural City-County All-Star Game was born, beginning with a boys' game before adding a girls' contest the next year. The showcase event was originally known as The Indianapolis Recorder City-County All-Star Game. Earlier games were played at Hinkle Fieldhouse before former presenter Jermaine O'Neal helped move the event to Conseco Fieldhouse in 2003. "Jermaine's support and involvement brought tremendous growth to the games and college workouts," said Super Shootout, Inc. Board President Chris Reeder. "We really want to thank him for his support. We were excited to learn that Eric wanted to partner with Super Shootout, Inc. and support us in continuing our mission to provide post-secondary educational opportunities for Marion County youth." Nearly 700 Marion County basketball players have participated in the City-County All-Star Game since its inception, including notable NBA and WNBA players like Rodney Carney (Minnesota Timberwolves), George Hill (San Antonio Spurs), Courtney Lee (Orlando Magic), Shyra Ely (Chicago Sky) and Katie Douglas (Indiana Fever). Among the numerous players confirmed to play in this year's Eric Gordon Super Shootout, include Cathedral's Errick Peck (City Boys All-Stars Player of the Year), Northwest's Cierra Dotson (City Girls All-Stars Player of the Year), Franklin Central's Patrick Bade (County Boys All-Stars Player of the Year) and Ben Davis' Alex Bentley (County Girls All-Stars Player of the Year). The Eric Gordon Super Shootout All-Star Coaches are Cathedral's Scott Hicks (City Boys Coach), Heritage Christian's Rick Risinger (City Girls Coach), North Central's Doug Mitchell (County Boys Coach) and Ben Davis' Stan Benge (County Girls Coach).
