The Greenfield-Central Cougars picked the perfect time to go on a winning streak. Able to put a rough five-game stretch behind them, the Class 4A Cougars racked up back-to-back wins this weekend, defeating both New Palestine, 55-42, and Mount Vernon, 40-39, to claim the Hancock County Tournament championship. Greenfield-Central's title-game victory over Mount Vernon on Saturday night gave the team its first winning streak since the Cougars opened the season 5-0. Prior to the tournament, Greenfield (8-4) had gone a frustrating 1-4. The Cougars' county championship marks the program's third consecutive and fourth straight county championship game appearance. Ben Davis Tournament: The top-ranked Class 4A Ben Davis Giants (14-0) kept their run at perfection alive on Saturday night, winning their 14th consecutive game and the Ben Davis Tournament. The Giants opened the tournament by beating Class 4A No. 11 Bloomington South 70-37. Later in the night, they downed Class 4A No. 10 Plainfield 94-43 to capture the tournament crown. Rumble on the River: The Class 4A No. 5 Fishers Tigers won four straight this weekend and walked away with the Rumble on the River title after toppling Austin 77-48. The Tigers (13-1) have won 10 consecutive games and haven't lost since falling to Class 4A No. 4 Hamilton Southeastern (11-1) on Nov. 26, 2008. Fishers handed losses to Franklin County (83-51), Jasper (61-35) and Connersville (64-52) at Southwestern High School during the two-day event. Clinton Central Classic: Class 2A No. 12 Speedway cruised to a 54-37 victory on Friday over host Clinton Central. The win pushed the Sparkplugs' win streak to four games and gave them the Clinton Central Classic championship. Hamilton County Classic: The Noblesville Millers grabbed two wins and extended their winning streak to three games on Saturday by beating South Bend Clay, 79-62, and South Bend Adams, 75-22. Westfield upped their season mark to 11-2, scoring two wins at the Classic. The unranked Shamrocks have won four consecutive. In other news: Hamilton Southeastern improved to 11-1 on the season by winning the Huntington North Classic last week ... Covenant Christian defended its home court last week by defeating Indianapolis Tindley 54-39 for the Covenant Christian Tournament title.
