For Week 12, VYPE is hitting Giants Stadium for the Sectional 6 championship showdown between No. 8 Ben Davis and No. 13 Avon. Partnered with Marsh Supermarkets and WNDE 1260-AM, tailgate action is set to commence at 5:45 p.m. Make sure to keep an eye out for the VYPE Hummer and pick a free copy of our November issue with Ben Davis senior Greg Rice on the cover. VYPE will also be handing free candy and is still looking for that lucky winner of an iTouch (iPod), which you can register for by signing up for our free online subscription. Come by and say hello before enjoying some postseason football. Who knows, maybe we'll be at your school next? Tonight's Central Indiana Sectional Championships (Games scheduled to start at 7 p.m. unless otherwise specified. Rankings base on final AP/Coaches' polls - UR: unranked) CLASS 5A Sectional 4 - Harrison (West Lafayette) (6-5) at No. 3/2 Carmel (10-1) NOTE: For a second consecutive year, the No. 3 Greyhounds and unranked Raiders will meet in the sectional title game. No. 3 Carmel won last season's November matchup 49-7. Last week against Lafayette Jefferson, Carmel quarterback Morgan Newton netted more than 200 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns. The University of Kentucky recruit could be in for another big day as Harrison's defense is allowing 23.7 points per game. Sectional 5 - No. 11/10 Lawrence Central (9-2) at No. 9/9 Warren Central (8-3) NOTE: The Bears haven't seen the Warriors in the postseason since 2005. Of course, we all know how that ended as Warren Central rolled to a third consecutive state title. Tonight, however, speed will be a factor, and the Warriors have plenty in running backs George Cheesebourough and Ball State recruit Eric Williams. On the other hand, Lawrence Central will counter with senior RB Ryan Pervine. Sectional 6 - UR/No. 13 Avon (9-2) at No. 10/8 Ben Davis (8-3) NOTE: There's a first time for everything, and tonight's meeting marks the inaugural tangle between the Orioles and Giants. Ben Davis has climbed the ranks behind a strong running attack anchored by IUPUI recruit Greg Rice, a mobile quarterback with speed and athleticism. Avon comes out with a balanced game plan via quarterback Jake Harris and leading-rusher Darren Oliver. Sectional 7 - Bloomington North (6-5) at No.1/1 Center Grove (10-1) NOTE: The top-ranked Trojans haven't lost in eight weeks, and for a second-straight week they find themselves locked with a Bloomington foe. Able to easily dispel Bloomington South last week, 56-14, it's the North Cougars this time for the Sectional 7 hardware. Enter senior running backs Luke Swift and Tanner Riley. For good measure, expect plenty of senior quarterback Jordan Luallen, too. CLASS 4A Sectional 13 - No.14/UR Plainfield (9-2) at Zionsville (7-4) NOTE: The Eagles and the Quakers have combined to surrender 22 points in 16 quarters this postseason. On the season, Plainfield has averaged 15.3 points allowed. Zionsville has posted a number under 12. This one might come down to turnovers especially if the Quakers and the Eagles are determined to snap their sectional droughts of 2000 and 2002, respectively. Sectional 14 - No.4/5 Indianapolis Cathedral (8-2) at No.6/4 Whiteland (11-0) NOTE: In back-to-back postseason meetings, it's been all Cathedral. The first win netted a regional title. The second supplied a sectional trophy en rout to a semistate berth. But the Warriors have a rock to break, and a win against the Irish would demand a huge chunk of boulder. You want rivalry in the postseason, here you go. Will it be a three-peat for the Irish or another step toward perfection for the Warriors? CLASS 3A Sectional 22 - No.1/1 Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (9-1) at Rushville (7-4) NOTE: The only team to slow the Trojans was the Cathedral Irish in Week 4. Since, the defending state champions have rolled to six straight and haven't allowed more than 12 points in any contest. Sectional title No. 8 as in eight straight appears to be a given like a Aristotle Pappas' rushing touchdown. CLASS 2A Sectional 29- No.4/5 Heritage Christian (10-1) at No.16/13 Lawrenceburg (10-1) NOTE: One is never enough. For the Eagles, a second consecutive sectional title would be the first hurdle to getting that second shot - at state. Lawrenceburg is eyeing its first sectional title since 2005, but Heritage Christian's Jackson Kirtley could have the final say. The quarterback has amassed 2,720 yards passing and 36 touchdowns in 11 games. Sectional 30 - Speedway (8-3) at Monrovia (7-4) NOTE: Jonny West has been the sparkplug to Speedway's season so far. The junior quarterback has 17 touchdowns and his favorite target is senior Kyle Linville (700 yards receiving, 10 TDs). Speedway is aiming for its six sectional in eight years. CLASS A Sectional 36 - Clinton Central (8-3) at No.3/2 Sheridan (10-1) NOTE: Bud Wright's Blawkhawks passed a serious test last week, traveling to Lafayette Central Catholic and scoring a 34-28 win. Up next, a defensive minded Bulldogs team that hasn't surrendered more than 13 points in eight weeks. But, they haven't met Indiana University recruit Nick Zachary. Sectional 37 - No.1/1 Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter (11-0) at South Decatur (6-5) NOTE: A three-peat is in the works for the top-ranked Raiders. Last year these two teams met in the sectional opener with Ritter cruising to a 42-14 win. Behind the combo of quarterback Ross Hendrickson and primary target Tyrone Walker, this is the Raiders' game to lose. Sectional 38 - No.14/UR Lapel (9-2) at No.11/12 Hagerstown (10-1) NOTE: Want some history? Lapel hasn't won a sectional title since 1995. For Hagerstown, it's been since 2000. Something has to give tonight.
