Central Indiana, IN

Monday, October 20, 2008

Last weekend, the Pike Red Devils boys and girls cross country teams made history, sweeping both the team and individual titles at the Ben Davis Sectional. On Saturday, Oct. 18, the boys' team added a regional championship to its list of accolades - building on a postseason of firsts. Pike secured its first regional team title with consistency, placing three runners in the top 20 and finishing with a score of 78. The week prior, the Red Devils won their first sectional team title with a score of 51 and five top-20 runners. Senior Michael Jordan once again led the charge at the Ben Davis Regional, winning the event with a time of 15:55. A state-qualifier in 2007, Jordan's winning sectional time was 16:02. Teammates Craig Jordan and Brian Jett were seventh and 11th at regional, respectively. The girls' team followed up their first team sectional with a runner-up placement at the Ben Davis Regional. Pike placed four runners in the top 10. Brownsburg won the event with 40 team points. The Red Devils finished with 71. Freshman Lydia Greene, who won sectional by a margin of 30 seconds with a time of 19:18, followed Southmont's Creasy Clauser for second overall. Her time was 19:06. Pike's Abigale Hall was third, Jaclyn Lahr was eighth and Sophia Greene was ninth. Both teams advance to Saturday's Franklin Central Semistate. The first race is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
