Numbers Claim Football Is King
Central Indiana, IN

By: Brian Moore, VYPE

A recent poll on VYPE.com shows that a vast majority of you would place football and baseball/softball over basketball. Why?

Nearly 67 percent of you think that football is Indiana’s favorite sport.

Take a good look at the poll in the main picture above. Around our office, we’ve been staring at it in amazement for the last couple of days.

Nearly 67 percent of you think that football is Indiana’s favorite sport.

It’s telling, but not surprising.

It’s not surprising because football has been growing here in the Hoosier state for quite some time. And, with fall sports kicking in, the opening of Lucas Oil Stadium and the recent success of the Indianapolis Colts, many would agree that – at this time of year – football is king in Indiana.

But what about the old “king” of Indiana sports? You know, basketball. Remember Hoosier hardwood – a hot gym on a cold night? What about hoops?

The statistic from this unscientific poll of our VYPE readers that should jump out like a frog from a lily pad is that basketball is third on the list of Indiana’s favorite sports.

Of three choices.

And, according to these numbers, it’s not just third – but a “trailing-in-a-big-embarrassing-way” kind of third.

Why? What’s happened to our claim to fame?

We want to hear from you, as we’re planning something with your responses this fall.

E-mail us at letters.centralindiana@vype.com or e-mail me directly at brian.moore@vype.com. Let us know what your favorite sport is. Tell us why football is now Indiana’s favorite. Explain your thoughts on why Hoosier Hoops have fallen from the top of the list. We’re looking forward to your responses.

Regards,
