The temperature was hot, but the music was hotter at the 2008 Indiana State Fair Band Day. A long and trying day for band members and fans ended late Wednesday night as Muncie Southside won the overall competition.

Richmond, Anderson Highland, Northeastern and Jay County rounded out the top 5.

Locally, Noblesville finished 14th, improving on last year’s finish, when the Marching Millers finished 24th. Only the top 16 bands can compete in the evening Finals session.

The Marching Millers first performed at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday before a nine-and-a-half hour break – the finals session for Noblesville didn’t begin until a little after 9 p.m.

Other schools that advanced to the evening session: Lapel, Pendleton Heights, Anderson and Southport. Sheridan competed, but did not place in the top 25.
