The annual North-South Indiana All-Star series took place at Notre Dame's Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend over the weekend. And several Central Indiana players made their presence known. Franklin's Brad Hook, the cover subject of our May 2008 issue, was the winning pitcher for the South in a 16-8 win over the North in Saturday's first game, pitching three shutout innings and allowing just one hit while striking out two. Hook also won the pregame home run derby with four dingers. The North won the second game, 7-4, courtesy of Westfield senior Jake Hansen's two hits. The South came back to take Sunday's finale, 3-0, behind Pendleton Heights' Sean Collins' two scoreless innings. Sunday's game was played with wood bats. Decatur Central's Shawn Mattingly, who guided the Hawks to the 4A state title, pitched one scoreless inning for the South. The South squad also featured Chatard's John Dury (two hits, including a home-run during the three-game series); Lawrence North's Andrew Spleth (two hits); Brebeuf's Nathan Koontz (three hits), Zionsville's Michael Tucker (one hit) and Jared Broughton of Lutheran (two hits, RBI).
