10. Park Tudor wins fourth straight
The Park Tudor girls tennis team may not have had as dominant of lineup as years past, with just two seniors, but the Panthers were equally as impressive in their run to the program's fourth straight state title. The girls became the second team in state history to accomplish four in a row (Evansville Memorial), beating four of the state's top seven-ranked teams during the tournament.

9. Carmel girls swim to title, again
Even though it may have been expected, you still can't take the Carmel girls swimming team's 22nd straight state title for granted. This particular championship tied the team for the most consecutive state titles nationally in girls swimming, and also put them as the second-longest active streak in the country regardless of sport or gender. Senior Sam Partridge won the 500 freestyle, the only individual event the Greyhounds had never won in the past.

8. Zachery carries Sheridan
Nobody was necessarily surprised by the game that Sheridan quarterback Nick Zachery put together in the 1A football state championship. Perhaps that says something. After star tailback Ty Perkins went down with an injury in the first quarter, Zachery put the Blackhawks on his shoulders with an 87-yard kickoff return, one touchdown pass and three second-half touchdown runs for the 34-28 win.

7. Marcums lead New Pal
Family ties are at no shortage within high school athletics, but it's not often that three people with the same surname win a state title together. Well, that's exactly what happened when the New Palestine softball team claimed the 3A championship behind Alyssa and Michelle Marcum - with Ed, their father, as head coach. The Dragons beat Jasper, 4-0, to win the school's second 3A title in the past five years.

6. Cathedral golf dominates
One of the more impressive team performances this year, in a mostly individual sport nonetheless, was that of Cathedral boys golf at the spring state championships. A two-day, 36-hole event, the Irish shot 6-under par as a team on the first day to run away from the field and held tight on day two for a 22-stroke win. That margin of victory was tied for the second biggest in the 72-year history of the event.

5. Adams' heavyweight success
Being a dominant heavyweight is about as high profile as it gets in high school wrestling, and Perry Meridian star Chico Adams was exactly that. On Feb. 16 at the state finals, Adams capped off his second straight undefeated season (both 53-0) with a second straight heavyweight title when he grinded his way to a 3-2 decision over Winchester freshman Adam Chalfant.

4. Decatur Central wins 4A baseball
In a win for the entire school and community, the Decatur Central baseball squad made an unexpected run to the 4A baseball crown - giving the school its first ever state championship in a team sport. Perhaps the best 'moment' came when the Hawks posted three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Evansville Harrison by one run at semistate, but the they were able to cap that off with an impressive 7-3 win over FW Homestead at Victory Field.

3. Shields doubles up
After leading the Fishers boys cross country team to the school's first state title in the fall, Drew Shields had a performance to remember at the state track championships in late May. By winning the 800 and 1,600-meter races, coming from behind in both, Shields became the first runner in 60 years to double in those two events. The last was John Stayton of Anderson in 1948, winning the mile and half-mile.

2. McKeehan sets national record
You probably know her by now, Center Grove swimming star Michelle McKeehan, and just about any other year she would be tops on this list. At the February state championships, McKeehan touched the wall in 1:56.87 to set the national record in the 200 individual medley and followed that up with a state meet record in the 100 breaststroke. Those performances made McKeehan the second girl in state history to sweep the same two events in four consecutive years, following in the footsteps of Olympic gold medalist and Elkhart Central graduate Lindsay Benko.

1. Hayward's buzzer-beater
As far as memorable moments are concerned, it doesn't get much better than this. Brownsburg will forever be changed by the heroics - and a little bit of luck - of Gordon Hayward. With 2.1 seconds on the clock in the 4A boys basketball title game, an inbounds pass deflected Hayward's way when the senior star scooped it up and put it home. That sent the Brownsburg contingent of fans into complete mayhem, and it's a play that won't soon be forgotten.
