Brownsburg Catcher Selected by Cincinnati in MLB Draft

Brownsburg standout catcher Tucker Barnhardt was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 10th round on Wednesday. Helping the Bulldogs clinch a share of the Hoosier Crossroads Conference title this season, Barnhardt committed to attend Georgia Tech this fall.

In 27 games this spring, Barnhardt hit .377 with six homeruns and 22 RBIs.

Other former Central Indiana high school baseball standouts selected during the Major League Baseball Draft's second day were Chris Fetter of Carmel, J.B. Paxson of Center Grove and Dan Black of Carmel.

Fetter was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the ninth round. The pitcher was playing at the University of Michigan. Paxson, a catcher/pitcher at Western Kentucky, was selected in the 13th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Black, a first baseman at Purdue, was picked in the 14th round by the Chicago White Sox. The Chicago White Sox also selected Northview High School product, Brady Shoemaker, an outfielder at Indiana State, in the 22nd round.

Ball State outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker, a Wapahani graduate, was drafted it the fourth round by the Boston Red Sox.

On Tuesday, Brownsburg's Drew Storen, a relief pitcher at Stanford, was taken 10th overall by the Washington Nationals. Terre Haute North graduate and Indiana University pitcher Josh Phegley was drafted by the White Sox.

Greenfield-Central grad, Kyle Gibson, a pitcher at Missouri, was selected 22nd overall by the Minnesota Twins.
