Warren Central graduate Candyce McGrone, who recently won the 100 and 200 meter dash at the girls state track finals, won two events at Saturday's Midwest Meet of Champions. In the all-star competition featuring track and field's top graduating seniors from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, McGrone was one of six individual and two relay champions from Indiana. McGrone, who guided Warren Central to three consecutive state team titles, won the girls 100 in 11.78 seconds and the 200 in 23.65. She just missed qualifying for the Olympic Trials (11.35 in the 100 and 23.25 in the 200 were the cutoffs). Decatur Central's Bob Belden, also a state champion, won the boys discus with a 180-feet, 3-inch throw. Lawrence North's Brandon Pounds won the shot put (61 feet, 7 ½ inches), while McGrone's Warren Central teammate Monteka Flowers won the girls discus (147-0). Culver's Alex Banfich topped Beech Grove's Renee Masterson by 52-hundredths of a second to claim the 1600 meters title.
