You know that feeling you get when you glance at the calendar and actually realize what day it is? Not just looking at the date to see if your schedule is in line – but actually realizing what the exact date is?
Well, I’ve got that feeling.
Folks, it is June. June.
Where did that come from? One minute we’re grabbing a hoody in anticipation of a cool night at the football game, the next we’re busting out the flip-flops as high school seniors begin turning their tassels at commencement.
It’s slightly unsettling (as is the fact that it’s been 10 years since I waltzed across the stage, took my diploma and smiled for the camera).
We live in a very fast-paced and hectic world and it’s up to us to pull a carpe diem, seize each moment and appreciate it. Here at HSSTM, we’ve been trying emphasize what a special experience high school sports are and how quickly it will all pass by.
As we flip the calendar to June and to summer, another school year ends and spring sports, as baseball, softball, boys golf and girls tennis, will all crown tournament champions.
In preparation for this momentous time of year, HSSTM tells you how the Zionsville girls tennis team is trying to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Plus, Brebeuf baseball has had a tremendous season on the diamond – find out what makes the Braves a true team to watch for this postseason.
In addition, you’ll want to check out our feature story on Covenant Christian senior three-sport athlete Emily Heuss, who, at 5-foot-1 and 120 pounds, can squat 22 percent of her body weight. And we sat down with notable Brownsburg coach Pat O’Neil to talk about his successful career in and around high school baseball.
There’s so much more in the pages that follow, I’m just going to let you get to it. After all, it won’t be long before the calendar turns to July and August – and another year of moments and memories will begin. And stay tuned, here at the magazine we have exciting things planned for the fall as well.
