Three Central Indiana Volleyball Squads Advance to IHSAA State Semifinals

Center Grove, Brebeuf Jesuit and Indianapolis Lutheran all took care of business this past weekend in regional action and will now compete in the IHSAA volleyball state semifinals this weekend.

Class 4A Center Grove improved to 33-3 on the year after claiming its first regional crown since 2000 and seventh overall. The Trojans first defeated Carmel (25-11) and Avon (25-12) to reach the state semifinals. In the Perry Meridian Regional championship match, the Trojans rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win against Avon with a 15-10 victory in the decisive fifth game.

Center Grove will travel to Yorktown High School on Saturday morning to play Muncie Central (33-4) in the state semifinals following the match between Elkhart Memorial (35-2) and Floyd Central (35-3) at 9 a.m.

Class 3A Brebeuf (32-1) swept Batesville (29-4) in the Shelbyville Regional semifinals before sweeping Western Boone (24-8) in the championship match. The Braves’ title match victory extended the program’s regional championship run to three consecutive years, winning four titles in the past five years (2005, ’07, ’08).

Brebeuf will face Silver Creek (27-11) in the state semifinals at Muncie Central on Saturday morning following the match between Mishawaka Marian (33-5) and Yorktown (36-1) at 9 a.m.

Class A Lutheran (20-16) won their second straight regional title by ousting Rising Sun (27-8) in three games in the South Decatur Regional semifinals and Edinburgh (29-7) in five games during the championship.

The Saints will now face Wes-Del (27-7) Saturday morning at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena at 9 a.m. in the state semifinals.

The winner will advance to the Class A state championship match at Ball State’s Worthen Arena, the host site for all four title matches.

The Class A championship match begins at 2:30 p.m. The Class 3A championship match is scheduled to commence at 6 p.m., following the Class 2A match at 4:15 p.m. The Class 4A match is set to begin at 8:10 p.m.
