Former NFL Player Tackles VYPE Arkansas

Monday, May 4, 2009

Former college and NFL linebacker Kenyatta Wright has been named VYPE Magazine's Arkansas Market Director. Wright has served on VYPE’s Board of Directors for a year and will continue on as the senior director of strategic development for all of VYPE’s operations nationally. In Arkansas, he replaces Rhett Lashlee, who accepted a football coaching position with the Auburn Tigers earlier this year. “The structure of high school sports here has mirrored the success we have in Oklahoma,” Wright said. “The community loves high school sports and that support is intensified by having Wal-Mart as a community partner. What makes it even more attractive is how fast VYPE Magazine has grown in Arkansas.” VYPE recently split its Western Arkansas edition into two publications, focusing on the River Valley and Northwest Arkansas. The River Valley coverage area stretches from Fort Smith to Russellville while Northwest Arkansas covers high schools in Benton, Madison and Washington Counties. VYPE also is adding new members to its Arkansas operations and will continue growing its staff here in the coming months. Wright was an all-state linebacker at Vian (Okla.) High before signing with Oklahoma State, where he was a four-year starter and the vaunted leader of the famed “Orange Crush Defense.” He then played six seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. “VYPE has a unique value proposition in its ‘home-field advantage,’ with editorial teams on the ground throughout the state, covering the games and the athletes at a very local level.” Wright said. “I’m pleased to join such a dynamic team, working with people who share my passion for sports and drive to be the best of the best, and look forward to helping VYPE become the leading authority on all things related to high school sports.” In addition, VYPE also is proud to announce the hiring of Andy Jensen as director of business development. Jensen spent the past two-plus years as associate editor for the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal. He also covered the Arkansas Razorbacks and high school sports for five years at The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas. “Andy’s background in business and sports blends perfectly for what we do here at VYPE Magazine,” said Mike Capshaw, VYPE Arkansas editor. “Andy gave passion and pride to every story he’s ever attacked and we know he’ll have the same vigor when serving our clients.”
