Hudgins Memorial Moto Race Wraps Up

Monday, August 4, 2008

The 2nd Annual Garrett Houston Hudgins Memorial Race wrapped up July 20 at the Elk River Motocross Park in Noel, Mo. The weather was HOT but the racing was even HOTTER for this year's event. Fifteen-year-ld Garrett Hudgins passed away during a motocross race in Arkansas in 2006. Garrett's Family as well as his race sponsor set up a special fund and monies raised gets passed onto the families of other racers who die in the sport that Garrett loved. Last year, the family sent out over $800 to various families in Garrett's honor. This year's event raised over $1000 for the Memorial Fund. The race started out with a short message of appreciation from Garrett's mom, Pami as well as a short message from Garrett's Race Sponsor, Chad Jones on behalf of TEAM CLAJ. Following the Memorial Service, a Victory Lap was taken by Garretts Niece and Nephew, Garretts teammates, and a few close friends. Fellow racers and friends stood by the track in honor of the Victory Lap while a song that was written and sent to radio about Garrett, played on. The song was written and recorded by Ray French from Minneapolis, Minn. During intermission, a HUGE prize giveaway took place and nearly everyone walked away with a prize! At the end of the race, track owner Steve Bloxham made a special announcement that EVERY RACER would receive a plaque in Memory of the Garrett Houston Hudgins Memorial Race. Plans are already being made for the 2009 Garrett Houston Hudgins Memorial Race and businesses are already donating items for next year.
